Adopters needed for children who wait longer

Adoption Week Scotland

We need for more adoptive families to come forward, especially for many of Edinburgh’s children who wait longer for adoption.

Adoptive families make a huge difference to the lives of children who have experienced very different childhoods. Adopters provide a family home where children feel secure and claimed.

Each year we recruit up to 20 adoptive families, who come from diverse backgrounds who go on to successfully adopt children. Some children belong to sibling groups and are adopted on their own because we don’t have adopters who can offer adoption to more than one child. Others may have more complex medical or behaviour needs. Some come into foster care at an older age, and are 4 or 5 when they can be adopted.

In Edinburgh Council, we pride ourselves on placing Edinburgh’s children with Edinburgh’s citizens and in this way children retain their cultural roots and people who are important to them.
Once the children are adopted, we offer our adopters hands – on support with activities and opportunities to meet other adopters, many of whom go on to become lifelong friends.

Can you help extend our adopter community in Edinburgh? We currently need to recruit more adopters for our children who wait longer for a family.  Come along and speak to a member of the Adopt with Edinburgh Team  at one of  our monthly drop-ins. Our next event is on Thursday 1 February. We’ll be at our Waverley Court Office  at 5 – 7pm, so drop in for  a chat. Looking forward to meeting you!

Of course, you don’t have to wait for  our event to find out more – Call us on 0800 174 833 or find out more about adopting or download an adoption information pack.
