“Audrey has been a foster carer for the City of Edinburgh Council for over 30 years helping care for vulnerable babies. She has cared for over 80 children throughout her time with the council and has cared for each child like they were her own. Despite her years of service, Audrey continues have empathy and compassion for not only the child but for each parent’s circumstances. She is warm and considerate to the parents going above and beyond her role, texting the parenting to ease their anxiety throughout the time she cares for the child, providing birthday cards, flowers on mothers day, meeting them for coffee, doing what she can to encourage and promote the parents to be able to care for their child again.
“Even in difficult circumstances where it is not always possible to rehabilitate the kids home to their parents, Audrey continues to empathise and support the parents. She has maintained links with all the children she has cared for and continues to visit or stay in contact with kids that have either returned home or been adopted. For children that have moved from her care and struggle in their placement, Audrey continues to offer respite and does additional support days to help the children.
“She has an amazing way with people, that there could be 20 people in a room and she would ensure that everyone would feel listen to. She cares for each child in her care with extraordinary care. She provides them with warmth, love and genuinely makes them part of her family. Many of the children she cares for have additional needs such as Neonatal Absences, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, prematurity to name a few. Audrey is committed to every child she cares for I honestly feel she is an outstanding person. She now is part of training for new Foster Carers and supports her own family and grandchildren.”
