New venue for Foster/Adopt Drop-in
We've moved! We're now at our Corporate Parenting Hub, Leith Street.
Our regular information drop-ins for prospective foster carers or adopters are moving from Waverley Court to a new venue starting on 5 February.
Our Corporate Parenting Hub in Leith Street, will be the new venue.
The team will be on hand to answer any questions about fostering or adopting with us. The hub is conveniently situated near the St James Quarter, where the team already host pop-up events with the support of John Lewis during the year.
Foster carer recruitment lead Tracy said:
“We’re hoping that our new venue will be convenient for anyone out and about in town doing late night shopping. They can just pop in for an initial chat to find out if fostering is for them. We urgently need more foster carers, and we know that many people think about fostering for a long time. They often have a few questions, and it is just about taking that first step. Once they have more information, they’re often excited to get the application process started. We’d love to meet anyone in that situation, so we’re encouraging people to just pop in and we’ll be delighted to help them. We have a diverse team of wonderful foster carers and we welcome couples and individuals from all backgrounds and life situations.”
There are a number of ways to foster including fostering for short breaks, or on an interim or permanent basis. Some foster carers continue to work while fostering.
Foster carers receive a range of benefits and support including an initial focused training programme to become an approved foster carer, and ongoing training to develop their fostering skills.
We also pay our carers fostering fees and allowances which are subject to a specific tax scheme for foster carers. As a result, the majority of our foster carers are exempt from paying tax on the income they receive from fostering.
Tracy added:
“If you know any friends or family members who are thinking about fostering, please spread the word about our new drop-in. Our foster carers often tell how much they love fostering and how life changing it has been for them and their families. Their only regret is waiting so long to take the next step.“
The team will be at the Corporate Parenting Hub 5 till 7pm on Thursday 5 February.
For anyone who can’t make our drop-in but wants to find out more just email us and a member of our team will get back to you.
