Types of foster care

Long term fostering

In Scotland, long-term fostering refers to when a child needs to remain in a foster care placement for more than two years, without a legal permanence order being in place. However, it’s not purely based on the length of time a child is in care. Long-term fostering relates to providing stability and supporting a child to remain in a specific foster care placement (in most cases) until reaching adulthood.
