The recent changes to legislation and policy in recognising the rights of brothers and sisters who need to be looked after is welcomed. Local authorities have a duty to place children with their siblings if it is practical and appropriate to do so. This type of foster care prevents children having to suffer increased trauma, separation and loss. Having foster carers who are in a position to offer this type of care is vital and highly valued.
